Nytt Liv

Nytt Liv, meaning new life in Norwegian, is about the adaptive reuse of the Covenant Church into an interpretation center. The use of Norweigan naming stems from the settlers who constructed the original building. The site is located in Young, Saskatchewan and was chosen by me for its potential to be adapted, as it had been abandoned for many years. Nytt Liv is meant to tell the story of its old life in a new body. The church’s intervention used contrasting materials but camouflaging colours to its landscape. Allowing the original church to continue to be the focal point of the landscape. On the
interior, the contrasting new and old are on display to frame the original building interior. In one section the hallway uses old windows as TV displays playing recreated videos of events happening inside as if looking through time. Also, the original entrance is now glass to remind people of the views people once saw every day as they came to church.
